Excuse me while I drool…

We got our exterior finished this week and I can’t stop drooling over it! It’s even more beautiful than I imagined. It makes such a difference to have all these finishing touches on and to see it all put together. Big shout-out to Stuccoworks II for the incredible job on the exterior. I literally sent them a mockup of what I wanted it to look like and they completely nailed it. It was so great working with them and trusting them with the exterior so we could focus on the inside of the house.

Pat has been working his tail off hanging drywall for the last 3 weeks and just got his inspection passed! We still have to tape, mud, and texture, but I’d say the hardest part is done.

We got our furnace and fireplace up and running, electricity hooked up, and garage doors installed all this week so its been really exciting to see things moving along. Our move-in deadline is the first week of March. Its still a pretty steep deadline but hopefully we can keep plugging away at all the odds and ends. Luckily I can help tape and mud the walls while Patrick focuses on building the deck and wiring the outlets, so we should be able to work faster at this stage.

We're going to Disneyland in a few weeks and our goal is to be done mudding and hopefully on to the painting stage before we leave. Once we get back it should just be finishing up painting, starting tile work, and assembling all the cabinets for the bathrooms and kitchen. There’s still a lot to do in the next 6 weeks but we’ve come so far and if anyone is determined to get it done, it’s Pat. Poor guy is so burnt out right now and we are so anxious to be together as a family again. We’ve been in it for the long haul but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. On a side note, we’re expecting a baby GIRL in May! As if we didn’t have enough on our plate. :) We are so excited and the boys already love their baby sister.

We have been so fortunate to be on this journey and have had so many blessings in return. Pat has met tons of people who will gladly funnel work his way once he’s done with the house, which will be a huge blessing for us once the baby comes.

...And On The 82nd Day They Rested

It's been a LONG road the last few months. We FINALLY finished framing!! By the time all the random odds and ends were tied up it took us 82 days. But boy, did we learn a lot in those 82 days. Patrick continues to amaze me with his talents and how much he knows. Pretty sure he’ll be an expert when we are all finished…not that he’ll ever want to build another house again. :)  We are currently working on our 4-way and are hoping to get that passed off next week. We hired out HVAC and some of the plumbing, the rest Patrick is diligently working on every night until he can’t see straight. We had the pleasure of having my dad come out a few weeks ago and he was such a huge help. He helped us get all the tedious framing details finished up and windows installed. I think most of all Patrick enjoyed having the company at the house all the time. I’ve been trying to spend time with the kids so I really haven’t helped much at the house in a few months. We made the big decision to h...

That's One Big Hole

Today we got our excavation hole dug. Not gonna lie, I've been a nervous wreck, but there's no turning back now! We had to make a few last-minute changes, one of which was changing the basement walls to be 9 feet instead of 8. Our lot is so low that they needed to be able to dig down more rather than bring in a ton of extra dirt/rock. We will still have to bring in a lot of fill dirt to build up the land but thats a lot easier than trying to bring in seismic rock to build up the foundation. We're also hoping to change the way the walkout basement works since it most likely wont need as many steps as the original plan called for. We learned a few more things this week that we had no clue about (ummm...damp-proofing?!) Footings are planned for late next week and the foundation the week after that. Once those two things are done we'll be able to let out a huge sigh of relief. These two big steps had a lot of unknowns for us and were a little out of our realm. Luckily, ...

Let the Framing Games Begin!

We are officially into the framing stage! We are SO excited to be at this stage; its been a long time in the making. The best part is that everything is now on our time frame and we can go work whenever we want. The sub contractors we've worked with have been great but it's nice to know that everything is in our hands now...daunting, but nice. :) Patrick has been working as much as he possibly can and we're almost done with the most difficult part; setting the rim joists and getting everything attached to the foundation. We have 3 more walls to frame in the basement and then we can set the floor joists and start on the main level. We have a goal of September 9th to be done with framing and October 1st the be able to start the drywall process (with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC in between). Our overall goal is to move in by Christmas so we're going to have a lot of steep deadlines in the upcoming months. Fingers crossed we can meet all of them and keep moving forward....
